It’s often thrown at atheists that atheism offers no ultimate purpose for living. Aside from pretending that this somehow discredits all the purpose we actually have, this argument forgets one thing: just because the theist has faith that he has an ultimate purpose for living, it does not mean he actually has that ultimate purpose. The point is merely an entirely unpersuasive Argument from Consequence.

That’s completely true. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t have that purpose either. There simply isn’t any way of knowing until one dies. (Assuming that “he” believes in an afterlife)
I have an interesting question Michael, for you too Bob.
Assume you die tomorrow and you find there is a God. What would you say or ask? Assume you also only get one statement or question to ask or make.
What would be the point of asking a question or making a statement to a being that is both omniscient and omnipotent who would know what I would say. The concept of god is just nebulous and pointless. It is a concept needed for those who need a parent figure.
Sure, and the concept of social programs is not just needing a parent figure but needing a program to actually mother you, thinking people are not themselves capable of doing so.
If you wish to define God as being for people that need a parent figure than I’d say the world would be a better place if everyone thought their parents were watching what they were doing.
You wouldn’t ask why he was so secretive? Or why people are suffering all over the world? Or whats in the Tupperware container you don’t dare open in the fridge?
I don’t wish to define god at all. I have no need for it.
Nope. If there were a god in your above scenario, then having to ask would be a major failure on that god’s part.
The point of the question was to find out what you would wish to say or ask. I imagine you would still wish to get a response even if he did know what your question would be.
You are trying to make an argument based on semantics where there is really no argument to be made.
I’ll change it a bit and hopefully you’ll get the idea this time.
If you could have any question answered what would you wish to know?
by Google, god, the tooth fairy, my cat, anyone, your opportunity is to have a question answered.
Why does is the universe governed by Murphy’s law?
Or
Why do I always find things in the last place I look?
Oh wait, I know the answer to that one.
But honestly, the are far more things that I (we) don’t know than things that I (we) do know. There is no one, most important thing. The journey of finding out is what I consider my purpose in life.
A good answer, took a while to get there but a good answer.
