Thanks for this video, it finally focused some niggling thoughts I have had about New Atheism, and what it is becoming. As I watched the video, it suddenly occurred to me how much the philosophy of New Atheism is like that other godless religion, Scientology.
Like scientology the minds of the non-atheist are thought to be burdened with a parasitic sort of meme, not unlike their ‘engrams’. This is invariably detrimental to the human mind, and all sorts of ills come from infection by this meme; violence, war, oppression, ignorance, etc. This infection occurred many lifetimes ago, and is so ingrained in the thinking of most that we no longer recognize it.
Dawkins of course is the Ron Hubbard in this scenario; he is ‘clear’ of the infection of religion, and offers a way for others to become clear, and thus free from all those ills and capable of exercising his intellect to fullest human potential.
To achieve this clear status, all that is needed is to buy and accede to the proper books and teachings of the leading New Atheists, attend seminars, parrot the proper ideas correctly. And eventually one will be recognized by others who have proceeded into a ascended state.
And of course, those who later reject those teachings after having been a member of the inner circle (like Anthony Flew) become pariahs, and are properly attacked and dismissed, so as not to infect others who on their way to the clear thinking.
Now all the New Atheists need is few charismatic celebrity converts, and they will be on their way.
