The conservative refrain

The most recent refrain being utilized by conservative pundits is to preface something awful they want to say with something like this:

And I know, I know. Liberals out there are going to be all over me for this because it must be racist, but…

And then the pundit proceeds to say something racist. Just today I heard some conservative host going on and on about Kwanzaa being a fake, awful, evil holiday that shouldn’t be celebrated. Why, heck, if blacks want to celebrate something, they have the WHOLE month of February! The guy even managed to have a real point here and there, but he covered everything he had to say with racism.

I guess I just don’t understand how saying “I’m not racist” makes it okay to then say something racist.

  1. It doesn’t make it okay, but it sure seems like if you disagree with anything a liberal says you are dubbed a racist.

  2. Here is Sam Harris telling it straight.

The Republicans, and especially the right wing have fucked the US over. How did it get so off base?

  3. Huff Po. I’m sure whatever it is is very informed. Or completely imaginary. Actually the second one is much more likely.

  4. Of course, Nate, your closed mind is prominent yet again.

Maybe you should read it before you denigrate it. Oh right, that isn’t the Republican way – make up your mind despite any facts…LOL

    You embarrass yourself yet again.

Here is help for you reading challenged:

See comment 20 here for a summary:

…and all the other comments that show that Republicans and especially the right wing practice “I got mine, so go fuck yourself”. Sound like anyone you know, Nate?

  5. The second liberal refrain: “you’re closed minded”.

Why don’t you add some links to the daily kos, that would legitimize whatever you’re trying to say.

Did you see the post I wrote on your behalf over Christmas? Very like the one you just wrote, I think I captured your charm very well.

As a matter of fact though, I did read the article. I find the idea that throwing money at our education system will fix anything to be absurd and “clean energy” is a synonym for “money hole”.

  6. Another article railing against the rich, is hardly productive. The top 10% pay around 64% of the taxes collected and account for 25% of all the charitable giving in this country. How much more do they owe the rest of us Bob?

  7. Did you see the post I wrote on your behalf over Christmas?

No. I didn’t know you had a blog where you write posts.

So you actually lied when you said “whatever it is”. Way to go, Nate. You never disappoint.

  8. And yet more info supporting Sam Harris’ points and deflating Nate:

  9. I do have a blog as a matter of fact, but you are correct I meant a comment that I posted here.

You’re talking about differences in economic theory. I don’t feel anyone owes me anything. Some people do. Maybe they do, maybe they don’t. You can’t solve any problem by increasing taxes and government. That’s only my opinion. There is no deflating on either side here.

It’s the bottom 50% that don’t pay their ‘fair share’ if you ask me. You yourself said you supported an equal tax across the board. Why the change?

  10. We don’t have an equal tax. With loopholes and tax incentives, the wealthy pay a lesser percentage than the middle class. The wealthy also don’t pay social security taxes above a cap. Government employees don’t pay into social security at all. Clergy hide a large portion of their income (legally) from taxes.

There should be a flat percentage that all pay (over some minimum income). No exemptions, including corporations.

There should also be a VAT instead of sales tax. All pay, no exemptions, including corporations.

This way, you earn more and then you pay more.
Also you spend more, you pay more (incentive to save instead of spend)

  11. I agree with a lot of that. Except with the clergy. Not having them file an income tax return probably saves money in the long run. I only know about catholic clergy but they don’t make anywhere near enough to pay taxes as it is. Why take a withholding and than give 100% back in the end, that costs money.

Corporations don’t pay taxes, their customers do. We need a flat income tax and no national sales tax, its worked out great Europe after all, ever increasing and regressive (not that all taxes aren’t)
