Someone told me that faith is believing without evidence recently. Of course, she’s absolutely right. The thing is, though, she was using it as a positive argument for faith.
I was baffled.

Why are you baffled? The uneducated can be excused, but the willfully ignorant are arrogantly proud of their faith. They are the climate change deniers, the YECs and those who use the benefits of science while railing against the science processes.
Roughly paraphrased – “Faith is believing in something you know just ain’t so.” Mark Twain.
I guess Clemens took it one step farther than she did and equated lack of evidence with non existence. She needs to take that one next logical step.
That is an odd thing to say, particularly as it is contrary to the Biblical definition:
Hebrews 11:1
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
Like Pascal, I don’t think lack of evidence keeps men from faith, but their passions. I have plenty of evidence that what I believe is true; when I doubt, it’s usually because of contrary desires, not contrary evidence.
