Arizona wants to violate the 14th Amendment.
Buoyed by recent public opinion polls suggesting they’re on the right track with illegal immigration, Arizona Republicans will likely introduce legislation this fall that would deny birth certificates to children born in Arizona – and thus American citizens according to the U.S. Constitution – to parents who are not legal U.S. citizens. The law largely is the brainchild of state Sen. Russell Pearce, a Republican whose suburban district, Mesa, is considered the conservative bastion of the Phoenix political scene. He is a leading architect of the Arizona law that sparked outrage throughout the country: Senate Bill 1070, which allows law enforcement officers to ask about someone’s immigration status during a traffic stop, detainment or arrest if reasonable suspicion exists – things like poor English skills, acting nervous or avoiding eye contact during a traffic stop.
The most interesting thing about all this racially motivated legislation is that Arizona businesses get a lot of untaxed labor from many of its illegal immigrants. And isn’t that what Republicans want? They have a group of individuals who have exceedingly low taxes on them – they only pay sales tax and the like. It’s like a more extreme version of the New Hampshire tax code.
But, sure, keep hammering the issue. I’m okay with the Republican party causing more alienation to everyone who isn’t white.

Being hypocritical is part of the job description for being Republican and right wing. Don’t expect logical positions from them.
Ok what about people like me I was born to an American and a Canadian in the US on a Green Card. Would they consider me a US citizen?
These people live in their own little world and don’t realize what type of idiots they should like.
I can understand outrage about this if it got passed and I can also see it getting shut down by the courts immediately. Its a none starter.
What I do not understand is this. There are millions of people breaking the law. What illegal immigrants are doing every day is not different from me walking in to a store and stealing something or me not paying my taxes. They are knowingly and willfully breaking our laws. they should be held to account for it.
It is not simply those from Mexico either. They do make up a pretty large portion of illegals, but that’s a matter of convenience since Mexico is so close.
What would the political left do if someday there was nothing for them to proclaim ‘racist’? They would be completely without talking points.
The problem of illegal immigrants goes back many years. What did the Republicans do about it when they had Gingrich and the majority in congress plus the presidency? Nothing. They wanted the ‘coulees’ to work for them for low wages.
Why do they get their righteous indignation up only when they don’t have the majority?
Why do they only want to balance the budget when they don’t have the majority instead of raising huge deficits from Clinton’s surpluses when they did have the majority?
Why do they run around screaming about activist liberal judges when their activist right wing judges ignore the constitution?
Because they are hypocrites with no morality who do not care about people.
I didn’t say otherwise. The same case can be made about those on the other side of the political spectrum.
It is a crime and i don’t care what party takes care of it or what combination of people from various parties. The issue is illegal immigrants are….. illegal!
Clinton surpluses… the reason they existed is because republicans had the majority. Clinton tempered their power and they tempered his. If republicans retake the house or senate this year you can almost be sure something similar will happen again.
No one can say with any amount of honesty that the left of the political spectrum is anymore moral or any less hypocritical. Both sides have the same problems and generally speaking so do those who claim to reside in the middle.
For the record, I’m not claiming that republicans have the solution. Just that they won’t get any of their crazy spending through and neither will Obama. At least not all of what they each want.
Just to be clear.
Such blatant bullshit, Nate – you should run for office since you lie just like the Republicans:

Yes one bill. 6 years of surplus from 1 bill. I did not say they were responsible. I said the combination was responsible.
There’s no real way to tell i know but i wonder if the surplus’s would have really continued all that time with one party controlling congress and the white house.
The Democratic party right now is being an even worse steward of our tax dollars than the Bush administration was.
That’s correct, they need to fix the major fucking stupid things that the Dumbya administration screwed up – pissing away half a trillion dollars on a bogus war, ignoring the real conflict with those who actually attacked the US, taking away freedoms with the patriot act, nearly bringing the entire world economy to its knees by giving welfare to corporations and raping the system of regulation while trying to tear apart the environment. Bush, Cheney, and their criminal cronies should be brought up on treason charges because they screwed us worse than any enemy could have done.
I can go along with some of that. But if you insist on bringing up welfare for corporations what exactly is a bail out? Obamas signature move, throw money at the problem. Should survival of the fittest stop at the natural word?
The majority of the companies that needed bailouts were rotten on the inside. To me that is not and should not be the governments business. If the same rules applied to the natural world we would still be slime on the side of some tidal pool. In fact, we might have been better off.
You cannot blame the world economic problems on George Bush, whatever his faults and misdeeds might have been. From a historians stand point we won’t be in a position to really determine what kind of president he was for decades.
Tell me how much has our national debt grown under Obamas watch? It’s looking like Obamacare was grossly under estimated when it comes to cost. As with almost all other government programs I am confident we will also find it to be over estimated in its efficiency and effectiveness.
As we go forward it is Europe’s over regulated, over taxed economic system that is going to pose danger to the worlds economy. Look at Greece, Spain and Ireland for example. The euro is in trouble and the old world has some serious troubles ahead unless they curb spending and that won’t happen without riots and violence.
People can only depend so much on the government, when they depend on it too much, for too much there comes a point where it can no longer be financed. Its difficult if not impossible to “unpromise” social benefits. But there comes a point where no bank will cash government checks if the government is really out of money.
