Conversation 1:

Suzie Q: I’m thinking of a number between 1 and 10 and you have 3 attempts to guess what it is.
Atheist: 7?
Suzie Q: Lower.
Atheist: 5?
Suzie Q: Lower.
Atheist: 4?
Suzie Q: You’ve had your three guesses.
Atheist: I suppose it must be somewhere between 1 and 3 then.

Conversation 2:

Suzie Q: I’m thinking of a number between 1 and 10 and you have 3 attempts to guess what it is.
Theist: 7?
Suzie Q: Lower.
Theist: 9?
Suzie Q: What?… I just told you it was lower. I’ll let you have that guess again.
Theist: 12?
Suzie Q: Not only is that higher, it’s not between 1 and 10. Do you… understand this game?
Theist: Yes of course, sorry. I could have said ‘5’ but my guess of ’12’ is equally valid and you should respect my choice.
Suzie Q: It’s not equally val-
Theist: Is it ‘D’?
Suzie Q: …Is that really your guess?
Theist: Yes
Suzie Q: No, it’s not ‘D’… you’ve had your three guesses.
Theist: That must mean that the answer is ‘cabbage’. I will tell my friends.
