Really? Prince?

Apparently, Prince hates homosexuals. He has evidently been a conservative Christian for some time. You’d think a guy who writes about fucking Darling Nikki and makes songs about sex toys and dresses flamboyantly might be a little bit looser. Nah. The virus that is religion has found another host.

  1. Actually, he is a JW; at least get your religions straight.

  2. Are you serious? Jehovah Witnesses are Christians. Beside that, I already tagged him as such.

  3. “Woke up the next morning,
    Nikki wasnt there.
I looked all over and all I found
Was a phone number on the stairs.
It said, ‘Thank you for a funky time,
call me up whenever you want to grind’.”

I forgot that Christians were all about having promiscuous, unattached sex. But anyway, I’ve got to go find my ‘good book’ and bottle of K.Y., I’m meeting some people later for a Bible study..

You can’t be serious. JWs are no more Christian than Hare Krishnas.

  5. First of all, Jehovah Witnesses base their beliefs on the Bible, even if they have significant differences from your personal interpretation of the same book. Second, it isn’t even important that a distinction be made since religion is a virus that destroys its hosts.

First off they base their beliefs on the Watchtower and it’s writings, and the Bible as a secondary consideration.

Second of all, if religion is a ‘virus which destroys it’s hosts’ how do you explain the fact that it appears to have been present in it’s hosts (humans) for as long as they have had civilization?

Doesn’t appear to be all that destructive to me.

  7. When people post that the JWs aren’t christians they mean they aren’t “true christians” as interpreted by the poster. Of course, that’s simply silly and parochial.

REFRERENCE: Jehovah’s Witnesses is a restorationist, millenialist Christian religious movement. Sociologists of religion have classified them as an Adventist sect.

  8. Destroy

See, I made the mistake of taking you seriously.

Actually, what they actually mean is they bear no resemblance to orthodox Christianity, a definition of which has been pretty well established for going on two millenia, and known to most in the Western world, innorant 20th century sociologists notwithstanding.

  10. Religion has made Prince a bigot (or it has at least given him further justification for his bigotry). He could have been an otherwise stand-up citizen. This does not mean that religion literally destroys its host to the point where it cannot biologically propagate.

I find it ironic that in one post you blog about how certain religious groups argue for gay rights, and laud them for doing so, completely oblivious to the fact that it was their religion that moved them to do so. How is it then that religion can have mutually contradictory simultaneous effects?

Considering the fact that rappers have occasionally been known for their homophobic comments , perhaps you conclude that hip hop music makes people bigots too – or is it just being black that does so?

    More wonderful logic on display.

  12. I’ve also said religion harbors a sense of community. And it harbors a sense of isolationism and groupism. Religion can cause people to do good things, but more often than not it causes people to do harm, embrace bigotry and hatred and misogyny and rape and murder and all those other immoral things god recommends in the Old Testament.

Rappers who are homophobic have a myriad of reasons for their bigotry, just as any other people who hold similar jobs and careers have different reasons for what they think. So, in conclusion, your example is stupid.

Yeah, horrible things like helping found and preserve the Western world, which gave us some of the greatest art, literature and music of all time.

Horrible things like developing science. Horrible things like founding hospitals, orphanages, major universities, inspiring abolitionism, the civil rights movement, and political systems.

Atheism’s successes don’t even compare to the failures of many religious institutions.

Just demonstrating once again how you illogically use correlation to prove your points.

  14. You’ve listed things which culminate due to progressive liberalism, increased knowledge, and the nature of larger civilizations and nations.

Rap doesn’t give justification for homophobia. Religion does. That has nothing to do with correlation. In fact, this topic has been covered. I noted Prince’s petty hatred may have resulted from something other than religion but that religion gives him justification for it. That isn’t correlating religion to hate. That’s noting that religion, if not the motivation for bigotry (which it often is) then it still remains a catalyst. The fact that Prince notes that his Christianity is why he is a bigot further shows that correlation was never used in point.

Really; then why didn’t it happen in non-Christian nations?

Funny thing about that word homophobia. It used to indicate an irrational fear of homosexuals; now it apparently means ‘the mistaken unwillingness to allow homosexuals to modify society by judicial fiat’.

I really don’t care what they do with their bodies, but it really annoys me when they pervert the language.

  16. Really; then why didn’t it happen in non-Christian nations?

Because you named things which occurred in the Western world which is largely Christian?

  17. Because you named things which occurred in the Western world which is largely Christian?

Of course, because the Western world as it is, is largely a product of Christian thought and action.

  18. Prince Is Gay As Hell! He’s Gayer Than Michael Jackson!!!!!

  19. Good one, Gary.

I miss the inanity that is Jack. Every blog needs a little crazy hanging around.
