Michael holds a BA in Biology with a minor in Philosophy. He likes to spend his free time hiking and defending science, though not usually at the same time. The thing I always come back to with the Euthyphro dilemma is that the biblical authors, particularly those of the Psalms, firmly plant themselves on the second horn. They had no reservations about judging God’s laws and decrees as “perfect” and “trustworthy”, ie using a standard outside of God to judge, specifically, his laws. For example, read Psalm 19, 7-13. How are we to understand this praise if God is incapable of issuing an illegal decree?
