Congratulations, Palin

I’m sure the nation is grateful for your efforts.

The sheriff blamed the vitriolic political rhetoric that has consumed the country, much of it occurring in Arizona.

“When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous,” he said. “And unfortunately, Arizona, I think, has become the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry.”

Giffords expressed similar concern, even before the shooting. In an interview after her office was vandalized, she referred to the animosity against her by conservatives, including Sarah Palin’s decision to list Giffords’ seat as one of the top “targets” in the midterm elections.

“For example, we’re on Sarah Palin’s targeted list, but the thing is, that the way that she has it depicted has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they have to realize that there are consequences to that action,” Giffords said in an interview with MSNBC.

  1. Thank you very much for writing this. I am tired of the Republicans and Tea Partiers in Congress calling actions like these ‘isolated incidents’. It might have been isolated early on, but we can now clearly see the trend. Conservative hate rhetoric is ruining political discourse in our country, and those politicians need to be held responsible. I am ashamed at Sarah Palin and her cronies, and I would hope for an apology soon. There are no words to describe how angry I am right now.
    Thank you.

  2. This is the result when people like Palin, Bachmann, Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, etc. run around spewing their hatred and bigotry and the usual right wing dogma of intolerance. This minority is trying to make the US into the Germany of the 1930s.

  3. Really? 1930’s Germany? What about 2011 Mexico? Is the idea of what you define as “bigotry” not to enforce our immigration law as Mexico does?

Show me one riot that has been the result of anything any of those people have said. Even with the attempted assassination of a us congresswoman yesterday, the guy seems to have more in common ideologically with you than I or even Limbaugh.

If you want a minority, bob, you’ll find it by asking if a person defines them self as a liberal, a conservative or a moderate. Self proclaimed liberals made up around 20% of the population last I saw.

This congress woman was not shot because of something Sarah Palin said, regardless of how much that would make your day.

  4. What are you ranting on about, Nate? Stick to the subject for a change. I don’t have to put up with that right wing tactic of changing the subject.

Deny Palin’s hatred as a cause all you want, but the truth is out there for all to see.

    Rant on, Nate…LOL

  5. This guy didn’t shoot anyone because of something Palin did or said.

  6. Fred Phelps loves the shooting…
    Even Hasselbeck calls out Palin…
Glen Beck being the usual fuctard dirtbag that he is…

Way to go right wing numbnuts!

  7. I suppose you think nothing of him reading Marx and Hitler, the guy may be an atheist, at the very least, as well, but its got to be republicans doesn’t it bob.

  8. Jarod Loughner was a nihilist. Which is the only logical conslusion that can be achieved from the atheists skeptisism. Are we back to the argument that people are not responsible for their own actions? Is this not the same argument or discussion that was had from the Nigerian post?

  9. Hitler was a far right wing Fascist, Nate. No, not just Republicans, but the entire right wing. Fudies and isolationists and gun nuts, etc, etc.

Here is common sense from P. Z. Myers:

“What we have here is an attempted assassination of a politician by an insane crank at a political event, in a state where the political discourse has been an unrelenting howl of eliminationist rhetoric and characterization of anyone to the left of Genghis Khan as a traitor and enemy of the state…and now, when six (including a nine year old girl) lie dead and another fourteen are wounded, now suddenly we’re concerned that it is rude and politicizing a tragedy to point out that the right wing has produced a toxic atmosphere that pollutes our politics with hatred and the rhetoric of violence?

    Screw that….”

  10. Hey if you really want to make it about politics than go ahead. The fact is this guy shot one of the most conservative democrats around, she might as well have been a republican, the bluest of the blue dogs.

The right wing has produced this atmosphere? What atmosphere? An atmosphere where a crazy person shoots people? That happens everyday.

One person is at fault here, the guy that pulled the trigger. No one else, regardless of political view.
