Thought of the day

I always find it so entertaining when one Christian calls another “not a True Christian” or some such thing. As if there is any objective way to tease out what makes one person a better Christian than another. lulz.

  1. I’d suggest that’s probably a malady common to the human condition. This conservative says THAT conservative’s not a True Conservative. That liberal says THIS liberal’s not really a liberal, just a toady for the Man. Muslims denounce other Muslims. Atheists denouncing agnostics.

    I’ve seen it all around.

I’d say it’s more commonly found, though, in those groups and individuals (religious or not) who exhibit more “fundamentalist” types of behavior (that whole, if you disagree with me, you’re of Satan, a fool, a heretic, etc).

It’s one of the reasons I believe in grace – in gracious living, in giving the benefit of the doubt and cutting some slack when it comes to non-provable beliefs/tenets/notions.

  3. As I said, I think this behavior is common to humanity, but not found equally in all quarters. Those in Brother Neil’s quarters (the fundamentalists – Christian, Muslim, secular or otherwise) seem to me to be the most likely place to find this behavior. An excellent case in point.
