Thought of the day

Sexual immaturity is rampant in Christianity.

  1. Based on your definition… sure.

  2. And all definitions are equally valid and worthwhile. Sorry, I forgot about that new rhetorical fad.

  3. Maybe, I’m just thinking about one opposite case that could be made. Your opinion is as valid as any, but this man thinks homosexuals are immoral. Good for him.

Certainly condemning Christians over their moral ideas because you have different ideas is very effective.

  4. My opinion is based upon an understanding of what science has to say about human sexuality, the sexuality of other animals, and joy of human sexuality. Christianity and other religions deny most aspects, instead opting to confine the whole ordeal because it can make people uncomfortable.

To confine anything worthwhile because of discomfort has to be immature. Christianity and other religions are just especially focused upon sexuality.

  5. As apparently are you, with your own view of it. People are free to do as they choose in this country, what I think about homosexuality, sex on the roof tops in Manhattan or sex before or after marriage doesn’t matter to anyone else, and i am just as right to express my views as are you.

What exactly does science have to say about human sexuality? Science is great at explaining the how, but not so fantastic on explaining why. That is left to speculation but nothing more.

  6. “As apparently are you, with your own view of it. People are free to do as they choose in this country, what I think about homosexuality, sex on the roof tops in Manhattan or sex before or after marriage doesn’t matter to anyone else, and i am just as right to express my views as are you.”

And UI has the right to express itself by not hiring this professor back. There. Now everyone’s free.

  7. In this instance he threatened students, I find it hard to believe he would have been fired or could have been fired for just saying he thought it was immoral. Universities should not fire anyone for their views whatever they may be. Opposing views make education work.

When it is a question of bias… of course they should be rooted out and disposed of. In college I faced a professor who routinely and openly gave me bad grades due to my military service. You won’t find her “professing” for USM anymore. As is right.

Had it simply been speech…. well as Voltaire may or may not have said:

“I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

He at least had that attitude if he didn’t say it.
