Religion has not merit. It is undeserving of this absurd respect demanded of it. It is something to be fully and robustly disdained. Worst yet, it’s untrue. I mean, come on. Virgin birth? Reincarnation? Shut the hell up, you crazy kooks

Religion offers no merit and no value. Its stature is maintained solely by a societal consensus to accord it un-deserved deference and exempt it from scrutiny and critique. Take away that exemption and the edifice crumbles under the weight of its own rancid doctrine.
By blogging about this, you are helping break the taboo that keeps religion safely sequestered in its toxic cocoon. Keep up the good work.
Cheers.
A quick thought…
Like so many things within religion, messages conveyed to the masses come from the interpretations of a few. We constantly hear people using biblical references as justifications to their arguments, from Obama being the devil to the definition of marriage.
You mention this belief in a “Virgin” Mary. Now, the fallacy of a virgin giving birth (i.e. by today’s connotation, someone who has never had sex) is indeed ludicrous. This, however, is another example of how religion has contorted and sculpted words to fit its own agenda. A historical study of the actual text shows that the authors were using the word to denote the purity or Mary and her lack of sin. The thought that a normal, kind, loving woman gave birth to a son in an abandoned barn is more believable and accurate.
The Bible, as a literary piece, was a philosophical and symbolic expression of how the people of the time understood their meaning and purpose in life. Considering it out of context or applying it to our own situations leaves us vulnerable to wild misunderstandings.
