Want to be a religion of peace?

…then all Muslims ought to be condemning what happened in this video:

This is all in response to a cartoon by Lars Vilks which depicted Mohammed with the body of a dog. The ridiculous overreaction just doesn’t make sense. It’s a drawing. Besides that, calling Mohammed anything remotely related to a dog should be taken as a compliment.

And as if all that isn’t enough:

An al-Qaeda front organisation then offered $US100,000 ($A110,730) to anyone who murdered Vilks – with an extra $US50,000 ($A55,365) if his throat was slit – and $US50,000 ($A55,365) for the death of Nerikes Allehanda editor-in-chief Ulf Johansson.

Yep, that’s the way to get to heaven: murder and mayhem. If you do it over a poorly drawn cartoon, all the better!

  1. One fundamentalist is just like any other. If they act uncivilized they should be treated the same way.

  2. a disproportionate amount of violence seems to come from this one religion taken to extremes.

  3. It’s roughly in the same phase as Christianity back in the Dark Ages (ya know, when Christianity caused the Dark Ages).

  4. there’s a lot of debate about the cause of the dark ages. and as history is no more than a best guess based on circumstantial evidence (most of the time)… its not really fair, nor accurate, to say the it was ’caused’ by Christianity.

With the failure of the prevailing political influence (the Romans) and their military protection/aggression, Europe became fractured and lead by “barbarians”. indeed the only thing tying any of Europe together is their common religion.

Disease, illiteracy, disrepair of old roman buildings and utilities forced people living is fairly decent conditions to move into hovels instead.

enter monasteries, the hotbeds of European scientific thought for centuries. it was monasteries that preserved writing and much knowledge during this “dark” time in our history. even though its not even all that dark. the monasteries and actually Jewish money lenders are what brought Europe out of the poorly named dark ages.

there were lots of abuses in the church and lots and lots of evil priests but feudalism and the fall of the roman empire is far more to blame than any religion.

  5. of course Christianity waged some pretty fierce wars against anyone who happened to be milling around between “here” and the holy land and anyone who was there once they arrived. but the fact that some or even many or even most Christians have done terrible things in the past does not excuse their behavior now.

indeed they should learn from mistakes made by other groups instead of emulating those mistakes with high explosives instead of swords and poisoned wells.

your absolutely right, i don’t see what religion has to do with it. extremists are not just found overcome by religious fervor, environmentalism, animal rights, global warming, global warming skepticism, any of these things and I’m sure all of them have their own group of person(s) unknown willing to do violence in the name of their cause.

Yes, a few, but not by the thousands like religious nut bags. How many thousands of Muslims protested again cartoon drawings? Utterly, completely fucking maniacs. Only religion does that.

  7. A fundamentalist is a fundamentalist. Islam is the most adept at producing maniacs that’s for sure, but i worry most about the crazies off the radar…

comedy central has no problem abusing Jesus or Jews or Al “hot air” Gore or Obama. its just Islam that is a sacred cow. they need to grow some balls
