Joe Morgan and Jon Miller are out

Baseball announcers Joe Morgan and Jon Miller aren’t getting their contracts renewed.

“We’ve decided to make a change and introduce new voices and new perspective,” said Norby Williamson, an executive vice president of ESPN. He added: “Twenty one years is an eternity in this business. And today is about acknowledging the contributions they made to the franchise.”

Good. I never liked either one. But then I get spoiled with Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo.

Now if FOX could get rid of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, all would be right in the sports announcing world.

  1. Jon Miller was occasionally all right when he had the right people interacting with him, Orel Hersheiser for example. But even with the ousting of Morgan, and the dream of disposing of Buck and McCarver, there would be a long way to go. Chip Carray is almost as bad as Buck, and the TBS announcing crew for the CS was, in all seriousness, the absolute worst baseball announcing I have ever heard. Way worse than even Buck and McCarver.

At least TBS has Orsillo during the Division Series, though I do have to say he’s much better without Remy, as fun as he is, distracting him.
